Tavros flinched at the words, as if they'd physically slapped him in the face. He'd never been able to handle Karkat yelling at him, ever. It was just one of the things that hurt him most, because he looked up to him so much. For Karkat to yell at him, it usually meant that Tavros had fucked up big time. Either that, or he was just really angry. But even then, Tavros felt like it was his fault.
So in this situation, it just made him absolutely miserable. Even more so than he already was. But what Karkat said had him confused. His brain tried to process everything he'd said, to possibly make sense of it. It was really hard separating each word in his head when it was so full of his own confused, sad feelings. And Karkat's last words hurt a lot, even if they were confusing, but he was trying really hard not to focus on those. He had to find out what Karkat meant.
"Stop w-what?" he finally asked, and he fought to keep his voice steady. "You're not, m-making any sense."
